FAQ

“The fact that I can plant a seed and it becomes a flower, share a bit of knowledge and it becomes another's, smile at someone and receive a smile in return, are to me continual spiritual exercises.”

~ Leo Buscaglia

Questions & Answers

  • What's this site all about?

This site is a place for me to share the things I've learned while trying to improve my mental health and perspective.

  • What inspired this site?

I began this site out of frustration with the difficulty of finding cohesive answers to a lot of the questions I was having while undergoing therapy. Originally, this began simply as a notebook - first physical, then digital - as a way to organize the various educational, therapeutic, and generally helpful insights I found along the way.

Eventually, I found that the software I was using had the ability to publish online relatively easily, so I thought I'd share, which further spurred on my own interest and journey of introspection and therapy.

  • Why "The Grand Conversation?"

I think it came about from a long rambling chat I once had about how we're all part of the same meta conversation, at a societal level, or even at a civilizational level, across time and history. While any given regular conversation seems distinct on it's own, it's actually part of a larger whole, passing information to another, that can pass information on to another, and so on.

A good example of this is a meme: we transfer ideas from one to another through communication. With that in mind, how we choose to interact with eachother and how we express ourselves seems like it can also travel in a similar way. So, therefore, it seems like we have the responsibility to ensure we do so with care.

  • What if I have comments or concerns about some of what is written on the site?

Feel free to leave a message on the Contact page! I enjoy reading them all - positive or otherwise - I'm learning either way, and being challenged is part of that path. If you're interested in extended discussion, there's a community attached to the website as well, linked in the footer.

  • I need more immediate help, is there anything you can do?

I'm not a professional caregiver in any way, just another person trying to find their way, hoping to make the next person's path a little clearer. If what I've written here helps someone else at any point, I'll take that as solace.

If you need more help than what can be provided here, I urge you to seek out help via Crisis Services or check out the Worthwhile Links and reach out to one of the many groups that stand at the ready to aid you.
